JBL Micro Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

Sound quality is much better than my cellphone's built in speaker (galaxy note). You can feel the bass and sound quality is good. It is basically more than enough for room and indoor used if loudness is the concern. Portability is the great factor to buy this. It is lightweight and it comes with a pouch. You can opt to use 3.5mm wire or just connect it via bluetooth. It is has an internal lithium battery.

Apple Green Mustang V8

Ford mustang was first introduced early on April 17, 1964. It is well known for being a pony car or a muscle car with lots of horses (horsepower). A silver logo of a horse represents a ford mustang. A sound of a revving mustang differs a lot from any other race cars, you can hear a roaring car. It is usually a 2 door car.

Ravpower Turbo+ Powerbank 20100 mah

Gadgets today are quite power grabber, battery usually doesn't last long. The faster the device, the more power it needs. Powerbanks were invented for this situation, power on the go. Charging without the need of charger and outlet. The common powerbanks are single usb port, slow charging speed and low capacity.

As I experienced the same problem, I looked for the requirements I need. Fast charging (Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0), 2-3 charging ports, large ampere hour capacity  and lightweight.

Some of my candidates for the powerbanks I need are Anker, Aukey, Pivoful, Tronsmart, Ravpower, and Momax.

My top 3 list were: Pivodul, Tronsmart and Ravpower.

If budget was not my concern I will definitely chose among Anker, Aukey or Momax.

I chose Ravpower Turbo+ 20100 mah.

The box is neat and it includes welcome and support information like hello, happy or sad.

Contains QR code and serial number for verification of authenticity.

The packages includes:

- pouch / case
- 2 USB Type A cable
- 1 micro usb to type c adaptor

My short review after using this for 1 month:

PROS:
- Nice packaging and premium materials used
- 2 USB cable
- Type C Adapter
- Case/Pouch
- Fast charging 2 usb ports + type c port (output)
- fast powerbank charging (input) using QC 3.0 port, 4-4.5 hrs
- lightweight compared to other 20,000 mah powerbank
- cheaper compared to other competitors

CONS:
- no usb type c to type c cable
- no charger for the powerbank, use your cellphone charge
- type c input is slow for charging even using fast charger or QC 3.0 charger (I though this would be faster thank quick charge
- powerbank heats up when charing it in the type c input
- it charge my Note 8 around 3-3.5 time

WISH:
- it has batter level indicator (percent)
- it has fast charging via type c port
- it has type c to type c usb cable
- it has its own fast charger

Uber No More in the Philippines

After Uber officially selling their share in Southeast Asia to Grab there will be no Uber App starting April 16, 2018.

Philippines was one of the affected country of the Uber-Grab deal. Uber will just ask for commission to Grab of 27.5 %.

Philippine Competition Commission  (PCC) is against this Uber-Grab deal but Uber has to stop operating anymore according to LTFRB.

We are left with Grab for now.  LTFRB said there will be three more TNC players coming so monopoly will be prevented.

After Uber being offline, complaints on the fare setting of Grab arises. Some are higher fare compare to Uber. Another is the recent 2 pesos per minute charge.

Uber will be missed, I hope to ride with you again in the future. Nothing compares to Uber.

Japanese Encephalitis in the Philippines

source: Center for Disease Control and Prevention

What is Japanese encephalitis?

Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a disease spread through mosquito bites. Symptoms usually take 5-15 days to develop and include fever, headache, vomiting, confusion, and difficulty moving. Symptoms that develop later include swelling around the brain and coma. JE is a serious disease that may cause death.

Who is at risk?

Travelers who go to Asia are at risk for getting Japanese encephalitis. For most travelers the risk is extremely low but depends on where you are going, the time of year, your planned activities, and the length of the trip. You are at higher risk if you are traveling to rural areas, will be outside frequently, or will be traveling for a long period of time.  In mild climates in northern Asia the risk for JE is greater in the summer and fall. In tropical and subtropical areas, there is a risk year-round.

What can travelers do to prevent Japanese encephalitis?

Culex tarsalis mosquito
Travelers can protect themselves from JE by getting JE vaccine and preventing mosquito bites.

Get JE vaccine, if recommended:

Talk to your doctor about your travel plans:
Your doctor can help you decide if you need the JE vaccine based on the length of your trip, the areas where you will be traveling, and your planned activities.
See your doctor at least 6 weeks before your trip:
The JE vaccine is given in 2 doses that are spaced over a month.
You should get the last dose at least 10 days before your trip.
Prevent mosquito bites:

If you are bitten by mosquitoes:

Avoid scratching mosquito bites.
Apply hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion to reduce itching.

How to Avoid Extra Charge by Taxi Drivers

Since LTFRB suspended Uber's operations recently thisweek, some commuters opt to ride taxi once again. Someone posted on facebook her technique to avoid the extra Php 100.00 charge by a taxi driver.

Here's the script:

Me: (Pumara ng Taxi na chaka, dahil wala ng choice)
Kuya sa BGC nga po!

Tsuper: Boss trapik dun.

Me: E pa'no?

Tsuper: Sige. Basta dagdagan mo ha. P100.

(sumakay ako, Umandar. Nagtulug-tulugan habang natatrapik.. Nakarating sa BGC.....)

Metro: 209 pesoses.

Tsuper: Yung dagdag ha.

Me: Nag-abot ng P220. Tapos dumukot uli ng P100. Bago ko iniabot ang "dagdag," binulungan ko muna ang pera. Some Latin sounding gibberish in the form of incantation na may patirik-tirik pa ng mata. Dinila-dilaan at hinipan ang pera...Pasigaw ang pagtatapos at nag ala- Mariah Carey whistle!

"Globilium Sancti Taxium Tsuperas Punyateras!!"

And here's the technique we can use to this kind of taxi drivers :D

Comparative Analysis of Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) and Conventional Taxi Services in Metro Manila

Abstract: This research presents a comparative analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of TNCs vs Conventional Taxis. The key performance indicators include travel speed, reliability, passenger expense, and quality of service. Travel diaries from regular riders of Uber, GrabCar and Conventional Taxi’s ran for 30 days in order to gather data and compare its KPIs. Hence, additional surveys such as: (1) availability of vehicle check and (2) performance indicator survey were also conducted in order to validate.
Based from the results of the travel diary submitted, Uber is faster than GrabCar and Conventional Taxi. In terms of reliability or the number of available vehicles at a specified pick up point, GrabCar dominates Uber and Conventional Taxi. Uber is said to be cheaper than conventional taxis. However, GrabCar was costlier among the three (3) transport modes. Lastly, Uber and GrabCar has better quality of service compared to conventional taxis.
Key words:  TNC, Uber, GrabCar, Conventional Taxi, Key Performance Indicators, Taxi, Travel Speed, Reliability, Passenger Expense, Quality of Service

1.       INTRODUCTION

1.1      Background of the Study

Uber is a popular mode of car sharing in the United States that is currently becoming popular in Metro Manila. GrabCar, on the other hand, provides the same services as Uber and was an added feature in GrabTaxi App. It originated in Malaysia and has start up success in the Philippines. This service is classified by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) as Transport Network Company (TNC), while their partners are called Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS).

The previous studies and problems from other countries where car-sharing success originated can be used as a basis for upgrading our transport system. Hence, solutions and improvements can be incorporated to TNCs in our country to help further enhance its services.

In order to compare the services and performances of TNCs vs Conventional Taxi, Key Performance Indicators will be used as a measurement. As such, Travel Speed, Reliability, Passenger Fare, and Quality of Service will be used to validate the beneficial impact of TNCs to our transport system. The positive results which translate to a more convenient and safer ride in turn can contribute to a sustainable transportation system.

1.1      Research Problem

Performance indicators of largest TNCs (Uber, & GrabCar) against Conventional Taxi should be checked to compare the quality of service of each mode.

1.2     Objectives

This study has the following objectives:

a)      Identify the role of Uber & GrabCar in our transportation sector and sustainable transport;
b)      To measure performance of existing taxi services versus the newly introduce Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS): Uber and GrabCar;
c)      To formulate recommendations for TNCs as well as for improving conventional taxi services.

1.3     Significance of the Study

Formulate recommendations to TNCs and identify the areas that our existing taxi services has yet to improve.

1.4     Scope and Limitation

The scope of the study includes the following:
a) The study is limited to TNC like Uber & GrabCar, and Conventional Taxis in Metro Manila
b) Study area is limited to Metro Manila
c) The study focuses on the comparison of these three types of transit, namely: Uber, GrabCar, and Conventional Taxi
d) The performance indicators are limited to Reliability, Travel Speed, Passenger Expense and Quality of Service

1.5     Study Framework

Taxi is a public utility vehicle for hire with a driver, used by single passenger or a group of people, and often not shared using a car. It transports passengers to the location of their choice point to point.

Transportation Network Company (TNC) is a company that uses online-enabled application using personal and non-commercial vehicles for car-sharing/ridesharing/resourcing purposes. (Uber, GrabCar, Lyft Etc.)

The study will focus on the Four (4) Performance Indicators in order to compare and analyze the service provided by Uber, GrabCar and Conventional Taxi.

Brain Damaging Habits

1. No Breakfast

People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

 2 . Overeating

It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

 3. Smoking

It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

 4. High Sugar consumption

Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

 5. Air Pollution

The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our 20 body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

 6 . Sleep Deprivation

Sleep allows our brain to rest.. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate

 the death of brain cells..

 7. Head covered while sleeping

Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration ofoxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

 8. Working your brain during illness

Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

 9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts

Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

 10. Talking Rarely

8 Healthy Reasons to Eat Beets (remolatsa in tagalog)

Beets (remolatsa in tagalog)

1.  Weight Loss
Beets taste sweet, but a cup of cooked beet contains only 60 calories and is full of fiber. This is a perfect food for weight management.

The sugars in beets are smart carbs, since they come in a natural whole food form.  Unlike white sugar, the beet calories come with a lot of nutrients and phytochemicals.

2.  Brain and Energy Boost
Beets are high in natural nitrates, which are converted to nitric oxide in the body. Nitric oxide is known to expand the walls of blood vessels so you can enjoy more oxygen, more nutrients, and more energy.

Studies have shown nitric oxide to increase the efficiency of the mitochondria (your energy powerhouses). The results of these studies were impressive.

A single small serving (70 ml) of beetroot juice reduced resting blood pressure by 2%.
A single small serving increased the length of time professional divers could hold their breath by 11%.
Cyclists who drank a single larger serving (500 ml) of beetroot juice were able to ride up to 20% longer.

3.  Nature’s Viagra
One of the first known uses of beets was by the ancient Romans, who used them medicinally as an aphrodisiac. Many plants have been considered an aphrodisiac by some culture at some time, but in this case it may be more than just wishful thinking.

As noted above, beets can increase blood flow due to their nitrates. Increased blood flow to the genital areas is one of the mechanisms Viagra and other pharmaceuticals create their effects.  Beets also contain high amounts of boron, which is directly related to the production of human sex hormones.

4.  Super Antioxidant for a Long, Healthy, Pain-Free Life
Antioxidants help to reverse the daily accumulated wear and tear on the body, known as aging. Beets are a very good source of commonly known antioxidants like vitamin C and manganese, but it is their lesser-known antioxidants which give them their true value.

The blood-red color of beets comes from a powerful group of antioxidants called betalains. There are hundreds of studies on the positive health benefits of betalains.  A short summary of the results shows that they help in the areas of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and inflammation. If you go to Google Scholar and type in ‘betalains,’ you will see 3790 scholarly references on this subject.

5.  Anti-Inflammatory Benefits
The inflammatory response is a natural function of the body which saves our lives when it responds to the acute stresses in our lives, like bacterial infection and injury. Due to the constant stress in our modern lives, however, this inflammation becomes chronic. It is as though our body is constantly in a battle. Inflammation has been linked to a number of symptoms and diseases including:

Wrinkles
Susceptibility to infections
Cancer
Arthritis
Bronchitis
Chronic pain
Diabetes
High blood pressure
Osteoporosis
Heart disease
Candidiasis

The blood-red betalains in beets have been shown to reduce chronic inflammation.

6.  Cancer Prevention

Preliminary tests suggest that beetroot ingestion can be one of the useful means to prevent lung and skin cancer. Other studies have shown that beet juice inhibits the formation of cancer-causing compounds called nitrosamines.

7.  Cell Detoxification and Cleansing
The antioxidants in beets have been shown to support what is called phase 2 cleansing.  In phase 2 cleansing, unwanted toxic substances are chemically combined with a small nutrient group. This combination neutralizes the toxin and makes them sufficiently water-soluble so they can be excreted through the urine.

This is therefore deep cleansing on a cellular level, that may have long term health benefits.

8.  Improved Mental Health
The betalains in beets has been used in certain treatments of depression. It also contains tryptophan, which relaxes the mind and creates a sense of well-being, similar to chocolate. Enjoy!

beets as a juice

I've tried drinking beets as a juice with carrots, and apple. The taste of veets is like or smell likes soil and it dominates the taste of all others. It drips a red color when you slice it. The taste won't bother much compared to the great benefits it has to our health. Beets with strawberry and banana is also okay.

Skyway Accident Caused by a Counterflowing Vehicle and Caught on Cam

Joselino Luna a driver of Mazda 2 vehicle and was driving along skyway northbound direction. He has a vehicle cam mounted on his rearview mirror and recording the front of his windshield. He was driving along skyway at around 100kph at the innerlane, the overtaking lane and all of the  sudden an incoming Toyota Altis vehicle surprised him on an high speed head on collision. Luna tried to change lane but another vehicle was on his right side. Accident happened and they're lucky to survived this incident. The driver of the Toyota Altis was wasted. He's wrong from the start. He entered the skyway exit, counterflow in expressway, and exit at entry point. He also did not invest for a comprehensive insurance. Call him irresponsible. He is a reckless driver and this is reckless driving.

Incoming vehicle before the head on collision happened

Credits: AutoEncorePhil

Did Luna's vehicle save him from this scary accident? We should always consider the SAFETY FEATURES  of a vehicle before buying it. Saving a little from gas is not that good at all compared to investing a vehicle with a lot of safety features installed that may save your life incase anything happen like this.

Luna posted his accident experience on this facebook account, and it goes viral in youtube on August 24, 2013.

His facebook account is in the link below.

No matter how safe we drive, ACCIDENT do happen because of irresponsible drivers like this. Strict issuance of drivers license can be one of the solutions I can think to prevent accident from reckless drivers. Why did the skyway officials didn't flag down this vehicles from the start, before he entered the exit of skyway? Do they have security cameras installed on the skyway? I think there's also a shortcoming on the part of the operation of skyway.

Drivers should always be alert and expect an accident can happened anytime. If we can't prevent it, at least we should be prepared and have presence of mind .

I've been in this peaceful town last January of this year (2013) for a reason.Visitors are very much welcome here.Tourism are also promoted by the local government of unit of this town. Beach resort are the common tourist spot here. Mr. Ipe Yap is the current mayor for 2013 onwards. What intrigues me here is their mode of transportation. Why is the development in this town is so slow? Is it because politics? or just the town have less income. I don't want to conclude. Even business establishment like restaurants are only a few. Tricycles with pimp suspension (truck like) and "Pajaks" are the common mode of public transport here. You can see very few jeepneys here, maybe on a scheduled basis only.

As u can see in the above picture, mixed aged people are riding a jeep like tricycle with capacity of approximately 20 persons

It is the commonly used mode of transportation here, where it connects inter barangays. Even in unpaved roads, it's been a reliable and trusted mode of transportation for people here

"Pajaks" bicycle with sidecar are other modes used in this town for short distance travel.

Students, employee, ordinary people, etc. utilizing every space available in the tricycle

You can see clearly how many person riding outside is more than riding inside

Others choose to ride "pajaks" as special trip

In case accident happen, you cant imagine how dangerous this ride will be for student

Other trikes have customized roofing for rainy weather

Although, this type of tricycles have custom built "pasadya" suspension to increase weight load capacity of passenger it is still not design to have a lot of passengers. Standard tricycle have 4 passenger capacity only. As you can see in the pictures above, back riders are more than the sitted passengers. Safety should be our primary concern in public transportation. A single accident will cause injury to passengers riding this mode of transport. I hope in time, the LGU should discourage this and recommend to a better modes like mini bus or jeepney.
